Wind Warning Issued for Lincolnshire
The Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning for parts of Lincolnshire, forecasting gusts of 40 to 60mph in the county. It's expected to affect areas across the Lincolnshire Coast, where large waves and dangerous coastal conditions due to these high winds are predicted.
Areas Affected and Forecast Timeline
The wind warning will be in place all day Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21. The coastal areas of Skegness, Chapel St Leonards, Alford and Spilsby are included in the weather warning.
"Coastal easterly gales, accompanied by gusts of 40 to 60 mph are likely to renew (in the south of the area) or continue (in the north of the area), extending a short way inland and affecting other higher ground areas inland too. These will be accompanied by large waves and dangerous coastal conditions. Winds are expected to ease through Saturday."
Potential Disruptions
Residents and visitors in the Lincolnshire Coast areas should expect to see coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves. Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges are highly probable. Some bus and train services may also be affected.
Safety Precautions
While the wind warning is in place, it's recommended to:
- Secure bins, plant pots and garden furniture in high winds.
- If driving, plan your route, check for delays and road closures, and ensure you have a fully charged phone, warm clothes and water in the vehicle.
- Drive slowly to minimise the impact of wind gusts, be aware of high sided vehicles and caravans on more exposed roads, and exercise caution when overtaking high sided vehicles and caravans.
- Stay safe and aware at the coast, being mindful of large waves and exercising caution if walking near cliffs.
- Stay indoors as much as possible.
