Met Office issues yellow wind warning for Lincolnshire
The Met Office has alerted Lincolnshire and other regions of the UK for severe wind conditions as Storm Agnes takes form. A yellow weather warning has been announced which is expected to commence from midday on Wednesday, September 27, lasting till the early hours of the following morning.
Expected wind speeds and disruption
The warning mainly affects Lincoln, Grantham, Boston, and Skegness regions of Lincolnshire where wind speeds of 40mph are predicted. Citizens should prepare for possible damage to property from the forthcoming intense winds, and power-cuts could potentially affect some areas.
Transport disruption
In addition to the power interferences, travel is likely to be disrupted, with the possibility of certain roads and bridges experiencing closures.
"While the precise track and depth of Storm Agnes is still being determined, there’s a high likelihood of wind gusts around 50 to 60mph for some inland areas," said Met Office Chief Meteorologist Steve Ramsdale. "Exposed coastal areas could see gusts of 65-75 mph with a small chance of a few places seeing around 80mph."
Rainfall accompanying winds
Storm Agnes is not just about winds, it's also expected to deliver heavy rain showers, predominantly in Scotland, northern England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Regions with high altitudes in Scotland could even experience around 60mm of rainfall.
"As well as some very strong winds for many, Storm Agnes will also bring some heavy rain, with the highest totals more likely in Scotland, northern England, Wales, and Northern Ireland"," Ramsdale noted.
