Storm Ciarán Threatens UK With Severe Weather
The UK is bracing for the arrival of Storm Ciarán, anticipated to bring both heavy rain and strong winds periodically between Wednesday, November 1 and Thursday, November 2. The Met Office has issued multiple weather warnings in response to the upcoming tempest.
Warnings Across Southern Coast
The Met Office has raised 'yellow warnings' ahead of the storm, warning of heavy rain across a large swath of the southern coast on Wednesday, November 1. Wind gusts accompanying the rain are expected to reach speeds between 70 and 80mph. This trend continues into Thursday, November 2, with warnings in effect from 3am until 8pm.
Amber Warnings for Brighton and Plymouth
Amber wind warnings will also be in effect for southern areas, especially Brighton and Plymouth, during the same period as the yellow warnings.
Milder Conditions for Lincolnshire
As it stands, Lincolnshire is expected to avoid the brunt of Storm Ciarán's impact, experiencing moderate rain and wind instead. According to the Met Office, Lincolnshire residents should anticipate the following conditions in the coming days:
Lincoln: Heavy rain shifting to clear skies by early evening on Wednesday, with highs of 13C, lows of 8C, and wind gusts up to 28mph. Thursday to see heavy rain again, with highs of 11C, lows of 9C, and winds peaking at 35mph.
Skegness: Similar prospects to Lincoln, with heavy rain expected to transform to cloudiness in the afternoon on Wednesday, with highs of 13C, lows of 9C, and gusts up to 30mph.
Boston: Heavy showers to clear to sunshine in the afternoon on Wednesday, with highs of 13C, lows of 8C, and gusts up to 27mph.
Maintaining Vigilance
Deputy Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, Steven Keates, emphasized the importance of staying informed, saying: "Once Storm Ciarán has passed, the weather over the weekend continues to look unsettled for many with more showers and rain at times. Warnings will continue to be updated over the coming days, so it is important to stay up to date with the Met Office forecast and warnings in your area."
