Heavy Rains from Storm Babet Disrupt Lincolnshire
Storm Babet brought about widespread disruption across Lincolnshire, causing severe flooding in many parts of the county. The storm led to heavy rainfall, raising water levels significantly and triggering 21 active flood warnings.
As the rain began to ease, the crisis situation gradually improved, although some places still had exceedingly high water levels. The storm also resulted in many road closures, 36 of which remained in effect as of Wednesday, October 25.
"River levels remain high following rainfall associated with Storm Babet, and further rainfall throughout Tuesday 24th October. Catchments are expected to react and river levels to remain high throughout the night and into Wednesday 25th October. Please avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. We are monitoring river levels and have staff in the field checking for and clearing blockages in this location," stated the Environment Agency on Tuesday evening.
Several areas continue to pose a high risk of flooding, including areas near the East and West Fen Catchwater, Maud Foster Drain Barlings Eau in Langworth, Heighington Beck in Heighington, and numerous isolated properties and villages near rivers such as the River Ancholme and River Trent, among others. Furthermore, substantial road closures affect numerous streets and lanes across Lincolnshire.
