Storm Babet Hits Lincolnshire: Weather Warnings for Rain and Wind Issued
The Met Office has issued weather warnings for Lincolnshire as Storm Babet sweeps the UK. The entirety of the county is under a yellow rain warning, which came into effect at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, and is expected to last until 6 a.m. on Saturday, October 21.
Concerning Wind Warninigs
Separately, a yellow wind warning was announced around midday Wednesday, with predictions for gusts along the Lincolnshire coast reaching between 40 and 60mph. There are expectations of large waves hitting the area, and coastal conditions may become 'dangerous' on Friday and Saturday, the Met Office warns.
Advice from Officials
Officials have advised locals to remain indoors whenever possible, securely fasten outdoor items like bins and garden furniture, and be extremely cautious when driving along exposed roads. There is also a slight risk of disruption to train and bus services.
Once the heavy rainfall commences, there might be a threat to some houses and businesses due to potential flooding. Subsequent damage to buildings could occur, the Met Office cautions. They have also warned about difficult driving conditions and potential road closures due to flooding.
Scotland's Red Weather Warning
In other parts of the UK, Scotland has seen a red weather warning issued due to heavy rain and severe winds. Areas around Angus and Aberdeenshire could undergo 'exceptional rainfall', which might present a significant risk to life.
"We will bring you the latest updates as Storm Babet hits the UK," Sebastian Mann, a reporter, said. He also shared the Met Office's advice on preparing for windy weather.
