Storm Babet Causes Chaos in Lincolnshire
In Lincolnshire, Storm Babet has unleashed havoc with reports of widespread flooding and disruption. The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for wind and rain hinting towards potentially severe conditions.
Fierce Winds, Rain, and Potential Flooding
The ferocious winds, reaching in excess of 60mph, are forecasted for Friday, October 20. Coastal regions are expected to be most adversely affected by the gusts. The Met Office also warns residents to brace themselves for possible flooding as water levels rise in Lincolnshire water bodies.
Yellow Weather Warning Over Two Days
A yellow weather warning for rain covers Lincolnshire on Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21. Simultaneously, a yellow weather warning for wind on the Lincolnshire coast is also effective.
Roads at Risk
The Inrix traffic monitoring system reports that road flooding has occurred in several parts of Lincolnshire posing a risk of falling trees. Reports of slow moving traffic due to flooding in Northorpe, West Lindsey and Middle Rasen have been noted.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Tony Wardle stated, "Storm Babet will bring disruption for parts of the UK in the coming days, with heavy rain and strong winds likely for many. Heavy and persistent rain will fall onto already saturated ground bringing a risk of flooding."
Mr. Wardle also stressed the value of monitoring local flood warning agencies and local authorities for updates.
