Consequences of Storm Babet: Flooding Disrupts Lincolnshire
Storm Babet, accompanied by heavy rainfall, has led to widespread disruption across Lincolnshire with regions of the county experiencing severe flooding. While conditions are slowly improving, several areas continue to have high water levels, and 13 flood warnings remain in effect.
Road Closures Continue Post-Storm
Post-Storm Babet, numerous roads throughout the county were flooded, contributing to massive disruption. As of Thursday, October 26, 37 road closures are still active.
"River levels remain high following rainfall associated with Storm Babet and further rainfall throughout Tuesday 24th October. River levels to remain high throughout Thursday 26th October. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."
The above statement was released by the Environment Agency on Thursday, cautioning residents against using certain roads and footpaths susceptible to floods.
Fiskerton Residents Advised to Evacuate
In Fiskerton, approximately 70 homes have been advised to evacuate due to the risk of the nearby River Witham breaching its banks.
Active Flood Warnings
Flood warnings still in effect include areas near River Ancholme from Bishopbridge to Brigg, River Trent at Carlton, River Witham and associated Fens from Chapel Hill to Boston, River Bain in Coningsby and Tattershall, and Properties near the River Ancholme and Old River Ancholme.
Persisting Road Closures
Among the affected roads due to flooding are Waterloo Lane, Skellingthorpe, Long Leys Road, Lincoln, Moor Lane, Horsington, Westborough Lane, Long Benington, Main Road, Low Toynton, Balmoral Avenue, Spalding and many others across Lincolnshire.
