2024 Garden waste service charges hiked by West Lindsey District Council

West Lindsey District Council increases Garden Waste Service charge for 2024

In a recent turn of events, West Lindsey District Council has announced an increase in its garden waste service charges for the year 2024. The hike, which is expected to impact more than 25,000 households currently subscribed to the service, comes as a result of increased operational expenses linked to fuel, vehicles, and staff.

The Cost Hike:

It has been agreed that the subscription charge will witness a climb from the existing £39 to a new price of £44 per bin for the 2024 service tenure. This rise marks the first of its kind in two years and is prompted by a significant surge in fuel, staff, and vehicle costs over recent years.

"This is the first increase in the cost of subscription for two years. Fuel, staff, and vehicle costs have increased dramatically over the last few years and as a result we have no choice but to bring in this increase," declared Councillor Trevor Young, Chairman of the Corporate Policy and Resources Committee at the council.

Understanding of Residents’ Needs:

While recognising that the garden waste collection is profusely valued by residents, Young affirmed that the council continues to be committed to rendering this service, which has now been in operation for six years. Acknowledging the importance of aligning the service with residents' requirements, Young also stated that the council plans to launch a community engagement initiative to gain insights into residents’ perspective and incorporate their views in any imminent changes to the service.

Alternative Disposal Methods:

The council conducts 18 garden waste collections per annum, executing the service from the month of March until the end of November. Residents may capably opt out of the service, avail of home composting for green waste, or take their garden waste to the local Household Waste Recycling Centre located at Gainsborough, Market Rasen, and Lincoln. Additional information on the same can be procured from the Lincolnshire County Council website.
