New Housing Scheme for the Elderly Kicks-off in Welton

New Housing Scheme for the Elderly Kicks-off in Welton

Work Commences on £Multi-Million Welton Housing Development for Older People

Construction has kicked off on a significant housing project worth millions of pounds in a village close to Lincoln. The development is aimed at providing specialised housing for the elderly. In total, 62 apartments and 10 bungalows are to be erected in Welton for the purpose of catering to older individuals with care and support needs.

Funding and Operation

The construction is financed by Homes England, West Lindsey District Council, and Lincolnshire County Council. The project is managed by a voluntary entity, LACE Housing Association.

Details of the Project

The ten bungalows, designed for residents prioritising independent living, will be let out on a shared-ownership basis. Residents can utilise the facilities nearby whilst living independently. The number of apartments is 62, all being single-bedroom ones. These can be beneficial for people in need of care and support, also promoting independent living.

Great Impact on Care for Older Residents

"This development will provide essential alternative accommodation choice for older people in the West Lindsey District. Extra care is about maximising independence and improving wellbeing for our older residents,"

Said Councillor Wendy Bowkett, Lincolnshire County Council’s executive councillor for adult care and public health. She underscored the vital aspect of accommodating the evolving care requirements of the ageing residents. Bowkett assured that extra-care housing paves the way to access services in vicinity, minimizing transitions into unsuitable residential care and hospital admissions.

She also highlighted how the new scheme allows residents to build confidence and develop skills. She added, "I look forward to seeing this scheme progress so that we can welcome residents who need this kind of support into their new homes."

Reflecting Community Needs

Nick Chambers, CEO of LACE Housing, discussed how the new development responds to the community's needs, as indicated in a survey by the parish council. “LACE has been helping to meet the housing and support needs of older people in Lincolnshire for 60 years. We are very excited to be delivering these in partnership with Homes England, West Lindsey District Council and Lincolnshire County Council."

Upon completion, these apartments and bungalows will house residents in need of affordable, quality lifestyle accommodation options. The timeframe set for this housing development is slated for Winter 2024.
