Essential Rail Works to Disrupt Lincolnshire Train Services and Road Network
Travellers in Lincolnshire are being cautioned about possible disruptions to train services and road networks, as crucial rail improvement activities are set to begin. The essential works, which include the replacement of time-worn tracks, will primarily affect areas around Hubberts Bridge level crossing and a level crossing on the A52 Sleaford Road.
Work Commencement Date and Areas of Impact
Engineers will roll out their work plans from the evening of Friday, September 22. The operations will interfere with the train services on the Nottingham to Skegness route, necessitating the use of bus replacements along some parts of the route.
For road users, closures are expected at the two-level crossings, and diversion routes will be clearly marked to aid movement. According to the operations director for Network Rail's East Midlands route, Mr. Steve Hopkinson, "The work at Hubberts Bridge and Boston will see decades-old track being replaced to improve reliability for our passengers travelling between Nottingham and Skegness."
Operations Timeline and Closing Remarks
The Hubberts Bridge station is scheduled to temporarily close for renewals from Friday night until Monday morning (September 25), with activities extending overnight until Thursday, September 28. Similar closure timelines are also slated for the level crossing south of Boston train station.
We appreciate that the work will cause some disruption and extended journey times for both rail passengers and motorists, and we’d like to thank them in advance for their patience and understanding while we carry out this essential work.- Mr. Steve Hopkinson, Operations Director, Network Rail East Midlands route.
Pedestrians' access to the footbridge at Hubberts Bridge road is planned to be restored from Monday onwards. Network Rail affirms these works will provide a smoother surface for road users and improve safety with clearer road markings.
To help manage the disruption, East Midlands Railway (EMR) has arranged for a rail replacement bus service to operate between Sleaford and Skegness on Saturday and Sunday (September 23 and 24), stopping at Heckington, Boston, and Wainfleet. EMR's Head of Customer Experience, Emma Davis, advises travellers heading to or from Skegness to allot "plenty of time" for their journeys during that period.
