Beaconthorpe Methodist Church Engulfed in Flames
In the coastal town of Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, a historic Methodist church was severely damaged by an intense fire that broke out late in the evening on Thursday, October 5.
A Blazing Landmark
The fire began at approximately 10pm, rapidly consuming the renowned Beaconthorpe Methodist Church. In response, dozens of skilled firefighters tirelessly exerted efforts to contain the inferno throughout the night, according to a report by Grimsby Live.
No Casualties Reported
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported as a result of the devastating fire. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the landmark building hadn't been in use for the last two years.
An Investigation Launched
Humberside Fire and Rescue Service are launching an investigation into the fire's origins. Originally built in 1913-14 and gaining listed status in 1980, the church has a past marked by instances of vandalism and antisocial behaviour.
Richard Gibson, from Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, stated on BBC Radio Humberside: "We'll be investigating the cause of the fire. We'll be working with our colleagues from the police and the council to have a look at the building itself. We'll be involved, the next few days, in putting things in place."
