Greenlight for New Aldi Store in Lincoln

Greenlight for New Aldi Store in Lincoln

New Discount Supermarket Slated For Lincolnshire Town

A discount supermarket chain has received the green light to construct a new store just outside of Boston, Lincolnshire. The Aldi outlet is slated to be constructed along Swineshead Road, about 1.6 miles southwest of the city centre. The plans for the new store were presented to the Boston Borough Council in October of the previous year.

A Boost for Local Employment

The new establishment will occupy around 1315sqm, and comes complete with 118 parking spaces for customers. Notably, the introduction of the supermarket is anticipated to generate employment opportunities for the local populace.

Positioned Amid Other Retail Outlets

The supermarket will stand south of an existing retail park, in the vicinity of other retail outlets such as Lidl, Tesco, B&Q, McDonald's and Starbucks.

The proposed development will be an increase in main food store provision that will help meet the retail needs of the local catchment area by enhancing consumer choice.
Aldi's model means specialist goods and services must be sourced elsewhere by customers, ensuring that Aldi's stores do not directly compete with specialist food shops or other local businesses.
The Aldi food store provides an amenity to the local area which is currently lacking, along with the creation of local jobs. Aldi look forward to becoming considerate neighbours and a valued part of the local community.

Potential Issues Addressed

Concerns were initially raised over the efficiency of the junction at the A52 and Westbridge Road, as well as the store's close proximity to other supermarkets. Despite this, councillors voted in favour of the plans in the potential of providing 'much-needed' jobs to the area, as outlined in the report from the officer.

It was decided that construction of the new supermarket must commence within the next three years, and a suitable scheme for surface water drainage be provided.
