Former Fish and Chip Shop Owner Hit With Operating Ban After Breaching Hygiene Standards
The ex-proprietor of Pisces Fish and Chips, a previously renowned food outlet in Boston, Lincolnshire, has been prohibited from running any food-related venture following failure to meet cleanliness and hygiene guidelines set out by the Boston Borough Council.
Yasin Nabi, who managed the Pisces chippy outlet situated in Fendale Road, acknowledged the lack of hygiene and cleanliness throughout 2022. Subsequently, he pled guilty to multiple breaches in hygiene at Boston Magistrates' Court.
Health Inspection Findings
In a series of three distinct visits between July and October, Environmental health officers unveiled a plethora of troubling issues. The council found conditions of squalor including unclean walls, mucky floors, and tainted ceilings. Kitchen work surfaces and a range of equipment were filthy too.
Worse still, the officials discovered food too mouldy to pass health standards. The existence of flies creeping on food and preparation areas also presented a grave concern. Notably, fridges within the premises were non-operational, and unfortunately, chicken and kebab meat had been stored at hazardous temperatures.
Legal Repercussions and Charges
Nabi has suffered financial penalties as part of the ruling. The 39-year-old has faced a hefty penalty amounting to £2,972 in fines and associated costs, notwithstanding the ban.
"The public have a right to expect safe food, and we as a council work hard to safeguard Boston residents' health and wellbeing. This case reinforces the message that we will not hesitate to prosecute food businesses that show a disregard for the safety of their customers. Food safety standards are there for a reason.
These were the sentiments echoed by Councillor Callum Butler, portfolio handler for the environment on the council. He added, "The prohibition order should serve as a warning to other food businesses that we will use every means at our disposal to keep our residents safe."
In a twist of events, information released on Companies House suggests that the beleaguered food outlet was duly dissolved as a company on 4th July. On a promising note, fresh management is now at the helm of Pisces Fish and Chips.
