Son's Tragic Death Revealed through Location App
In a heartbreaking incident, a Lincolnshire family learned of their son's fatal road collision when they used a smartphone app to pinpoint his location. Eighteen-year-old John Sparks lost his life in a horrific crash involving a lorry on the A17, near Swineshead and Sutterton, on the early morning of Sunday, September 3. While John was pronounced dead at the crash site, the lorry's male driver escaped with minor injuries.
Sister Sets up Fundraiser
John's sister, Jasmine Sparks, has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to arrange her brother's final rites and ensure he leaves a lasting legacy. When John didn't return home at the expected time, Jasmine and their father used the Life360 app to track his location. They rushed to the spot, only to be met with a dreadful scene filled with emergency services' flashing lights.
"John's life was cut short with so much he never got to do. As a family, we want John to leave a mark on the world, setting up this GoFundMe to contribute towards John's send-off or legacy. As painful as it is, we will never get John back, but we wish to do everything possible for his memory to live on," said Jasmine.
Fondly Remembered by Family and Friends
In a statement, John's family painted a picture of a devoted son, caring brother, doting uncle, and adored grandson. He had been excitedly anticipating starting a Computer Science degree at the University of Lincoln this September.
John's friend, Will Tanner, paid an emotive homage in a donation message, "He was my best friend and family, I loved him more than anyone can comprehend." Echoing his sentiments, Hayden Tyler wrote, "John was a very close friend and will always be loved, appreciated and missed."
Through the fundraising campaign, more than £2,300 has already been raised in John's memory.
