Massive Hay Bale Fire in Boston, Lincolnshire: Over 9,000 Hay Bales Ablaze
Residents of a Boston area have been alerted to keep their windows shut as an estimated 9,000 hay bales ignited on Sunday, October 29. The incident took place at Kirton Holme, a location within Lincolnshire.
Fire Service Dispatched in the Early Hours
The Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue service was called to the scene in the early hours of the morning to extinguish a fire involving multiple hay stacks. Crews from multiple locations including Boston, Kirton, Market Rasen, Donington, Spilsby, and Leverton were dispatched to the scene just after 1am on Sunday. Eyewitnesses who took to social media posted that the fire was visible over considerable distances.
"Residents in the vicinity of Kirton Holme, Boston are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to high volumes of smoke in the area. We were called out in the early hours of the morning to a fire involving multiple hay stacks on Holme Road, Kirton. There are upwards of 9000 hay bales involved."
Residents Advised to Keep Doors and Windows Shut
On its Facebook page, the Fire Service confirmed that the fire had engulfed a high number of hay bales and advised locals to keep the windows and doors of their houses shut due to the high volume of smoke being emitted by the fire. Subsequently, they issued another update stating that the fire was still ongoing and once again urged residents to keep their windows and doors shut, warning of the high volumes of smoke in the area.
