Old Wood Coach House: From Garage to Award-Winning Staycation Spot

Old Wood Coach House: From Garage to Award-Winning Staycation Spot

Lincolnshire Couple Transforms Garage Into Award-Winning Holiday Let

David and Katherine Samms, a married couple from Lincolnshire, have transformed an unused space above their garage into a two-bed woodland holiday retreat. Their venture, named the 'Old Wood Coach House' located in Skellingthorpe, opened to holidaymakers in 2021.

Garage Conversion Success Story

Offering charm and tranquillity, this unique 'upside-down' getaway nestles in the ancient Lincolnshire woodland, Old Wood. The Samms, whose careers span the Environment Agency and aviation, have lately seen their labours recognised with a silver award in the Best for Pet-Friendly Breaks Category by Sykes Holiday Cottages.

"The area we live in is so beautiful and sharing this with others was one of the main reasons we delved into holiday letting. We like to think of our property as an excellent tonic to the stresses of modern life – and the perfect place to stay with loved ones, which of course includes dogs. We've put so much into making Old Wood Coach House a success," said Mrs Samms.

The Popularity of The Old Wood Coach House

Since its doors swung open, the Old Wood Coach House has found favour with dog owners, consolidating its status as a desirable staycation destination. The award acknowledges the holiday let's appealing style, comprehensive facilities and positive feedback regarding cleanliness, comfort and value.

Syke's Holiday Cottages Commendation

Graham Donoghue, CEO of Sykes Holiday Cottages, exhibited his excitement regarding the relaunch of the Sykes Gems Awards. The awards honour the finest holiday lets around the country.

"A lot of work goes into running a successful holiday let so it was a difficult decision amongst so many wonderful properties, but our final winners are those consistently going above and beyond to deliver unforgettable breaks for their guests," Donoghue commented.

The national competition saw a considerable volume of entries for the Best for Pets category, with competitors spanning the UK and Ireland. Old Wood Coach House emerged victorious due to its owner entries, guest feedback, photos, occupancy rates, and amenities.
