Stand-Up Comedy Festival Poised To Put Retford On The Map
Retford, a market town in Nottinghamshire, is preparing to host its fifth annual comedy festival - 'Retfest' - from Friday, October 20 to Sunday, October 22. The festival, which draws in comedians from all over the UK, is spread across nine pubs and bars in Retford and is a celebration of stand-up comedy.
The Power Of Laughter
Organizer Mike Barker, who will also perform as Mikeybee, shared his excitement about the forthcoming event: "Last year went really well and it was a good laugh. A lot of people came to support us. We're really excited - as always, we can't wait to get it going."
Barker feels Retford is the perfect setting for a comedy festival, with its distinct character making it an ideal spot. He stated: "There's a quirkiness to it, Retford. I've got it established but I always want it to be a bit bigger. And a lot of people like it."
What To Expect
The Retfest will be launched at 8pm on Friday at the Black Boy in Moorgate, with London-based comedian Dylan Dodds headlining. Other performers that night include comics Ian Allerston, Billy McGuire and Leanne Easthope. The festival's first day will come to a close at Alberto's in Albert Road with a line up consisting of host Mikeybee, John Parman, Louie Green and James Brogan.
Weekend Comedy Spree
On Saturday, The Brewshed will open the day's proceedings featuring comedians Just P and Pauline Barton. Other performers during the day include Laura Lipitort, Nick Mason, and Angela de Bra. The night concludes with late-night sets at the Brick and Tile.
The festival's final day promises to be equally entertaining, with Just P opening at the White Lion at 1pm. The family-friendly set by Billy McGuire, a few hours at Beer Under the Clock and closing sets by comedians Andy Kind and Mikeybee aims to bring down the curtain on what promises to be a truly enjoyable weekend.
Future Plans
Looking ahead, Barker hopes to attract more of Britain's best-known comedy talents to enrich the festival's legacy and help establish Retford as a prime location for stand-up comedy.
