UKRO Festival of Rescue Hosted by Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue
The United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) Festival of Rescue, a national competition is taking place in Lincoln. This significant event is being hosted by the Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue. The two-day competition, running over Friday, September 15 and Saturday, September 16, involves a series of thrilling challenges that demonstrate the skills of the rescue and trauma teams from across the UK. The public is not only encouraged to attend but also given an opportunity to witness high-performance teams performing their valuable skills in real scenarios.
Nature of the Challenges
The festival includes a wide array of challenges testing the skill set of the rescue teams from the UK. Some of these include vehicle extrications, in which teams will demonstrate their abilities to cut open vehicles in difficult situations. They will also showcase their aptitude in dealing with casualties from heights using ropes. Teams will be tasked with attending to trauma care situations and performing water rescues, all under the watchful eyes of the public.
Location and Events
Two locations serve as the prime stages for these challenges- Uphill Lincoln and the historic cathedral quarter. Spectators will be able to watch teams scale the heights of Lincoln Cathedral and rescue 'casualties' from the Brayford in powerboats. Some of the climactic moments of the festival take place between 10am and 4.30pm on both days at differently located challenges.
"Fire and rescue services really enjoy this event and I’m delighted we are hosting it again this year. It’s a great way for professionals to learn and practice their skills, knowledge and techniques that can only improve the way that we respond to our communities. More than this though, it’s a great way for the public to see firefighters in action in a safe environment, learn more about the role and to talk to us about any concerns they have," says Mark Baxter, chief fire officer for Lincolnshire.
Apart from these gripping challenges, the event also features a community village within the grounds of Lincoln Castle and the Lawn, which will offer educational activities and stalls from sponsors of the event.
Canine Feature
Additionally, the event has incorporated a unique canine feature for dog lovers as well. This includes demonstrations by Urban Search and Rescue dogs along with other working dogs as they display their remarkable skills, much to the delight of the attendees.
