Convicted Killer Nurse Lucy Letby Expected to Appeal
Lucy Letby, the convicted murderer, is expected to make an appeal to her conviction, according to Cheshire Police. A former nurse in the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital, Letby was sentenced to a whole life order following her conviction of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others during 2015 and 2016.
Letby's Appeal Application Submitted to Court
An application to appeal has reportedly been submitted by Letby's legal team and has been received by The Court of Appeal Criminal Division, as reported by The Sun. As per the court regulation, it might take up to five months before the case is presented before a judge. The expected date for the appeal is September 25th, the same date when the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) will announce at Manchester Crown Court whether they intend to go for a retrial on the counts where the jury failed to reach a verdict.
Partial Verdict Reached
While Letby was convicted and given a life sentence for a number of crimes, the jury at Manchester Crown Court could not reach a consensus on all counts. Six allegations of attempted murder relating to five children remain unresolved. A hearing scheduled to take place on September 25th is expected to clarify the CPS's position on these allegations.
The crimes that Lucy Letby was cleared of include two counts of attempted murder. The jury comprised seven women and four men and failed to reach verdicts regarding allegations implicating Letby in the attempted murder of three baby girls, identified as Child H, Child J and Child K, and two counts of attempted murder against a baby boy, Child N, as well as the alleged attempted murder of another infant boy, identified as Child Q. The one count of attempted murder in which Letby was found guilty involved Child N.
