Lincoln to Become a 'Digital Playground'
In a unique showcase of technology and art, the city of Lincoln will be transformed into a 'digital playground' later this month. The much-anticipated biennial event, the seventh instalment of the Frequency Festival, will kick-start on Thursday, October 26 and continue until Sunday, October 29.
Festival Highlights
Featuring a myriad of technological wonders, the festival will see installations embodying virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI), sound and light all weekend long. Expect to be intrigued by AI-rendered portraits and animations, hypnotised by a laser light spectacle at Lincoln Cathedral's historic Chapter House, and impressed by VR exhibitions centred around fascinating concepts, like Van Gogh's flying machines.
Turning the spotlight on 'emergence,' the event has been carefully organised around this theme. Noteworthy offerings include 'The Care Takers', a performative sound installation courtesy of Liminal Creative, which delves into the human brain and the concept of memory, notably spotlighting dementia.
Artist Collaborations
Skulls and Robots will be unveiling a curiosity box filled with an array of creature designs. Joint efforts of climate activist Beccy McCray and the University of Lincoln will present an exploration of co-existing with animals. Two separate exhibitions by artists Tim Murray-Browne and Maria Mavropoulou will examine how artificial intelligence perceives itself and its surroundings.
Festival's Layout and Intention
The festival's exhibitions will be displayed across two primary areas: the Discovery Zone, located in Lincoln's high street and the Campus Zone, which will serve as the festival's central hub at the university. Specially crafted to entertain audiences of all ages, Saturday's programme has been curated particularly with families in mind.
"We are delighted to be bringing Frequency back to Lincoln for four days. Frequency celebrates digital culture and our national and international talent that creates unique, entertaining, and memorable experiences," said Samantha Lindley, Frequency's creative director. She further added: "Throughout the 12 years of the festival, we’ve consistently seen its positive impact on our community. Everyone is welcome to the festival, and we thank our funders, partners and collaborators for supporting and enabling this to happen."
