City of Lincoln Council Announces Festive December 2023 Plans
The City of Lincoln Council has unveiled its plans for the festive season of December 2023, set to transform the city into a winter wonderland of events and activities for residents and visitors alike. A grand programme has been designed to replace the traditional Lincoln Christmas Market which was discontinued in 2022 due to overcrowding.
Bail, Lincoln Cathedral and Stilt Firewalkers
Scheduled for Saturday, December 9 and Sunday, December 10, a spectacular display by stilt firewalkers will captivate audiences at St Paul in the Bail at 5pm. A marvellous closing show will take place at the iconic Lincoln Cathedral at 6.45pm on both nights of the Lincoln Ice Trail event.
Christmas Lights and Decorations
An investment exceeding £140,000 has been made by the city council for brand new festive lighting, set to illuminate key areas of the city from Newport Arch down to St Mark’s Street. Highlights include a stunning fairy-light exhibit at Exchequer Gate Arch and a 16-metre dazzling comet at City Square.
Festive Castle Square
On December 9 and 10, Castle Square will be transformed into a festive paradise offering traditional Glühwein, music from a steam organ, a Christmas-themed steam engine and appetising roasted chestnuts. FFN Lincoln looks forward to warmly engaging with visitors around the ice sculptures and other festive attractions.
Traditional Carousel and Lincoln Ice Trail
For the first three weekends in December, a traditional carousel will provide visitors with the unique opportunity to admire the Lincoln Cathedral and city views. Furthermore, a Lincoln Ice Trail featuring 20 creative ice sculptures will be showcased throughout the city on December 9 and 10.
Seasonal Entertainment
Various forms of seasonal entertainment, ranging from carollers to light performers, have been arranged across select dates in December. All information and schedules can be accessed at visitlincoln.com/Christmas.
