Boston and Skegness Take Centre Stage in Air Quality Fight

Air Quality Fight Turns to Boston and Skegness

Today marks the beginning of an ambitious campaign led by Refresh Britain right here in our towns of Boston and Skegness. This campaign aims to bring the desperate need for cleaner air into the spotlight in a significant run-up to the next General Election.

Consequences of Air Pollution

Boston and Skegness, like many different parts of the UK, have felt the harsh effects of air pollution. Our local parks have become less appealing, our high streets dirtied, and our landmarks, less attractive.

AccuWeather, a reliable source of air quality data, issued a serious warning in 2022. The acclaimed weather forecaster pronounced the air quality of Boston and Skegness as demonstrating a "high level of air pollution".

A Pivotal Moment

This is a pivotal moment for our towns and the fight against air pollution. Both Boston and Skegness consistently fall short of international standards set by the Intergovernmental Platform on Climate Change and the World Health Organisation.

As part of their campaign, Refresh Britain undertook a poll in which 74% of respondents recognised the vital necessity of improving our air quality.

"Our poll suggests that residents in Boston and Skegness want clean air for the community as much as they want a clean home to come back to. Politicians must take decisive steps to fulfil their promises to the community," said Imogen Martineau, spokesperson for Refresh Britain.
"Refresh Britain is about providing solutions to improve air quality in towns. Failure to act on cleaning our air now means we are storing up problems for communities in the future,” she added.

The Refresh Britain Plan

Refresh Britain has proposed a four-pronged approach to deliver cleaner air in Boston and Skegness. The focus is on initiatives to enhance urban centres, revitalise high streets, promote greener transport, and provide alternative heating solutions for homes.

People everywhere are encouraged to lend their support and help to make Boston and Skegness cleaner places to live. To know more and to make a difference, please visit the Refresh Britain website.
