Halloween Thrills at Lincolnshire Corn Mazes
Stepping into the Lincolnshire Halloween spirit, families are being treated to exciting experiences in haunted corn mazes. Providing thrilling, yet not too terrifying adventures, these mazes aim to satisfy the adventure-seeker within us.
Features of a Good Corn Maze
The ideal spooky maze should meet specific criteria - walls towering above your head,
not simple hay bale structures; a labyrinthine itinerary; and a setting long after the sun disappears. At Mill Farm, on the outskirts of Grantham, a hair-raising corn maze checks all these boxes.
Located a little away from the tiny village of Barkston, you know you've reached your destination when you are greeted by an enthusiastic man by the roadside. This experience shies away from becoming an overly commercial affair deeply appreciated by the youngsters excited to get into the maze.
A Memorable Experience
Equipped with a map, torch and a clipboard to collect clues, you begin your eerie journey in the vast eight-foot corn maze. With the labyrinth throwing you into confusion, 'Dad Mode - Orienteering' is usually activated, using the moon’s location and the distant sounds from the on-site hot dog stand to navigate. Families facing directional ambiguity, debating their path, and wondering if they're wandering in circles, heightens the experience.
Children's Fun in the Dark
Amidst the suspense, children take sheer delight in running around finding clues for the treasure hunt. Spending in excess of an hour within the maze never brings a word of complaint from the young explorers. The maze also boasts a rescue team, placating any fears of families getting too lost within its vast expanse.
Extraordinary Design at Mill Farm
The maze at Mill farm is enormous, featuring a man with pumpkins at his feet, the creation of farmer Steve Elnor and his team. The eerie pathways are marked with ghoulish figurines illuminated by fairy lights. The family-oriented Twilight Maze is now closed for the year, but a darker experience with 'creepy characters' awaits over 14s this Halloween weekend.
Pumpkin farming
Additionally, families can pay a visit to the pumpkin patch, where onsite carving sessions are available and the leftovers are fed to the farm’s pigs. Haunted Maze entrance is limited to over 14s and costs £12 per person. Pumpkins are available from £1. Reservations can be made at barkstonpumpkinsandmaze.com.
