Aladdin Pantomime brings Olympic and Strictly Stars to Lincoln’s New Theatre Royal
Lincoln's New Theatre Royal is set to spark some festive excitement as it announces its cast for the upcoming Aladdin pantomime in 2023. The line-up features an array of talent, including an Olympic gymnast, a Strictly Come Dancing star, and other familiar faces, bringing some starry magic to the traditional Aladdin tale.
Star-Studded Cast Set to Delight
Olympic gymnast, Louis Smith MBE, will be cast as Abanazar. Fans of the 2022 Cinderella will be thrilled to see Strictly Come Dancing's Ian Waite returning as Sultan Cha-Cha-Cha. The pantomime's schedule runs from Tuesday, December 5, 2023, until Sunday, January 7, 2024, giving audiences ample opportunity to catch the performance.
Together with these headliners, other cast members include Chris Clarkson as Dame Ginger Spice and Yñaqui Tuason-Inocian appearing as Chip Spice. Additionally, West End star, Roger Wright, will enchant as Genie of the Lamp with Matt Alexander-Lautman playing Aladdin and Ellie Cooper playing Yasmine.
A Modern Twist to the Traditional Tale
The classic story of Aladdin will have some modern tweaks led by producer, writer, and director Natalie Hayles-Cowley, who is also expected to play the role of Sirina of the Ring.
"We've never had gymnasts before who we have in the pro and junior ensemble and Louis. It's a bit old hat when people say to me pantos are for children - they're for everybody," says Natalie Hayles-Cowley.
Excitement From the Cast
"I'm really looking forward to getting started, it's a very intimate and fun venue. I am sure me and Ian have a dance-off and there may be some tricks and stunts," enthuses Louis Smith MBE.
Meanwhile, Ian Waite's excitement for his upcoming shows is clear, as he states, "To come back and be here for the whole run this year is really exciting. This new role is the daddy of all daddies, Jasmine's father. I'm looking forward to it."
Ticket sales for the festive show are ongoing, with a signed and relaxed performance scheduled for December 10 at 1.30 pm. Guest artist announcements for December 9, when Ian Waite will not be performing, are yet to be made.
