Lincolnshire Town Centre Pub to Become 16-Bedroom Hotel
The Blue Bull, a now-defunct pub located on Westgate, Grantham, in Lincolnshire, is set to be redeveloped into a hotel. The popular local landmark has remained vacant since 2015 and has often been labelled an "eyesore". However, this might soon change thanks to recently approved developmental plans.
A New Lease of Life
The South Kesteven District Council has given the green light to plans proposed by Mr J Kerr to convert the two-and-a-half-storey building into a 16-bedroom hotel. The establishment will feature ensuite bathrooms in every room, along with a ground-floor dining area. This development is subject to conditions.
"The proposed change of use responds to an identified need for budget hotel/bed and breakfast accommodation within the town centre area."
The above quote, lifted from the application's design and access statement, declares that the revamped building will contribute greatly to the town centre's vitality and to the character and appearance of the conservation area.
Adherence to Conditions
The hotel transformation must commence within three years from now. Another stipulation requires a written scheme of archaeological investigation that is sanctioned by the local planning authority.
Hotel Layout
The renovated building will allocate seven bedrooms to the ground floor, five bedrooms to the first floor, and the remaining four to the second floor. Additionally, minor exterior alterations are needed to accommodate the conversion. The property's rear space will be utilised for car parking.
With the green light from the district council and a solid plan in place, the former Blue Bull Pub is set to emerge from its ashes as a much-needed hotel establishment in the heart of Grantham.
