Grantham-raised Woman Shot Fatally, Suspect Charged

Lincolnshire-Born Woman Fatally Shot, Man Charged

A man has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman who was raised in Lincolnshire. 37-year-old Carrie Slater was found critically injured in Long Cawson, Leicestershire on September 21st and tragically, succumbed to her wounds two days later at a local hospital.

Details of the Tragic Incident

A post-mortem examination confirmed that Ms. Slater's death was due to a gunshot wound, according to a report from Nottinghamshire Live. Richard Basson, 44, of Kings Road, Long Clawson, is the man charged in relation to her death. Basson is set to appear before Leicester Magistrates’ Court on September 25th.

Family's Heartbreaking Statement

"Carrie was loved by all of us. She was a daughter and beloved sister to her siblings,"

The bereaved family issued these emotive words through a statement with Leicestershire Police. Still struggling to come to terms with the tragedy, they continued,

"We're still coming to terms with what happened. It’s difficult to put into words how we’re feeling but nothing we say is going to bring her back."

The family mentioned that Ms. Slater grew up in Grantham and that her abrupt departure would surely devastate the local community. They are currently supporting each other through this grievous period and requested privacy.

Additional Charges

Besides the murder charge, Basson is also accused of possessing a prohibited weapon of a length less than 30/60cm and having ammunition without a valid certificate. The police are not looking for anyone else related to this incident. Local officers will continue their reassurance patrols in the community.
