Wall Collapse on Car in Grantham Triggers Safety Fears
In a shocking incident on Tuesday, September 19, a wall collapsed onto a moving car in Swinegate, Grantham. The driver, local resident Sarah Tatchell, was not severely injured but was taken to hospital after twisting her side while exiting the damaged vehicle.
Collision with School Run Crisis
The event happened in close proximity to The King's School. Tatchell expressed her shock and relief that no school children crossing the road were involved. Her concern was articulated in her words, "It could've been a lot worse if a school child had been walking by when the wall came down".
Strong Winds Cause Wall to Tumble
South Kesteven District Council's contractors attended the scene to remove the debris. The collapse was attributed to strong winds, with a council spokesperson stating, "The wall, which came down due to strong winds, fell into the road and made contact with a passing vehicle. Contractors attended to clear the area and make it safe." The council is reportedly planning to build 20 social housing units behind the region where the wall fell.
A Narrow Escape For Tatchell
Tatchell, recounting the horrific incident and expressing her disbelief, said, "I'm not happy because it should never have been left like that...You hear of people driving into walls but not them falling down on you. It could've been a lot worse." Additionally, Tatchell expressed concern over the state of her Toyota which was critically damaged on the left side.
Police Investigation Follows
Lincolnshire Police, who attended the scene, acknowledged the incident. A spokesperson for the force confirmed, "We received a report that a wall had collapsed in Swinesgate onto a car...Officers attended, and one woman was taken to hospital by a family member with what are believed to be minor injuries.
