Two-Year Criminal Behaviour Order for Prolific Shoplifter and Aggressive Offender
In a recent incident, Anthony Taylor, 29, a repeat offender, subjected a Deeping St Nicholas bus driver to a physical assault and was involved in multiple thefts from various retailers.
Assault and Shoplifting Spree
Address-less Taylor not only assaulted a bus driver but also committed 10 thefts from stores in Spalding and Holbeach during March and July 2023. Aldi, Savers, and QD were some of his targets. Taylor accepted that he had punched the bus driver thrice during a hearing at Boston Magistrates’ Court on October 4, 2023.
Criminal Behaviour Order Issued
Post Lincolnshire Police's request, Taylor was issued a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) by the Boston Magistrates' Court. Accompanying this, he received a two-month suspended prison sentence, applicable for two years. Taylor has also been found guilty of violating a Community Protection Notice thrice.
Order Particulars
The issued CBO, which started on October 4 and will run for 24 months, restricts Taylor from:
- Any form of behaviour causing a person alarm or distress. That includes shouting, swearing, or using abusive language or gestures in any South Holland public place.
- Visiting any retail establishment in Spalding and Holbeach under the Chamber of Commerce Shopwatch scheme.
Violating this order is a criminal offence, potentially resulting in a fine or incarceration.
“A disproportionately large amount of harm and criminal behaviour is committed by a few prolific offenders; by targeting these people we aim to significantly reduce harm in the community," said PC Craig Lockton.
Community Accountability
Lockton explained the use of such orders as a method to mitigate community destruction. In addition, they provide courts with extra sentencing power to cater to any violations. Images of CBO recipients are publicly released for community members to identify offenders and report incidents. Citizens are urged to contact the police at 101 for any incident demanding police attention.
