Police Launch Investigation into Overnight Burglary, Urge Residents to Be Vigilant

IPad and Cash Stolen from Lincolnshire Home

Lincolnshire Police has launched an investigation following a report of burglary in Sturrock Court, Grantham. The theft, which involved an iPad and a sum of cash, is believed to have occurred overnight between 11pm on Saturday, October 30 and 9am on Sunday, October 1.

Request for Doorbell Footage

Speaking about the incident, a police spokesperson highlighted the importance of doorbell footage in solving such cases. They stated: "Do you remember seeing anything suspicious or unusual? We would urge people to check their doorbell footage to see if it captured anything that could assist in our investigation. Alternatively, if you have CCTV or doorbell footage available, please contact DC Henry Atkinson of Grantham Criminal Investigation Department (CID)."

Reminder to Remain Vigilant

The police representative also took this opportunity to remind residents about vigilance and proper property security. "We would like to remind residents to remain vigilant, keep property secure and report any suspicious behaviour to us in the first instance," they advised.

Burglary Rates Peak During Darker Months

Lincolnshire Police is also spearheading a campaign to combat burglary across the county, as these crimes increase notably during darker months. Indeed, in October 2022, Lincolnshire’s burglary count peaked at 202 offences, up significantly from a monthly average of 137.

The force lead for burglary, Detective Chief Inspector Jo Fortune, stressed the temptation darker evenings create for potential burglars. "When the evenings are dark, it's a gift to burglars. They can make an assumption that a home without lights on in the early evening is unoccupied. They will pick that one over another where there’s an indication that residents are at home. If you leave a light on, or have a light set on a timer switch, you reduce the risk of an opportunist burglar targeting your home."
