Newly-Refurbished Spalding Tennis Courts Ready to Welcome Players
The recently renovated tennis courts in Spalding are all set to welcome keen players. Following a significant refurbishment project worth £120,000, these courts located in Ayscoughfee Gardens are now ready for bookings.
Important Renovations Deliver Significant Improvements
The significant renovations encompassed complete resurfacing and repainting of the courts, installation of new nets and posts, and the setting up of a sophisticated gate system linked to online court booking. Starting from Thursday, September 21, enthusiasts will be able to use the courts through the LTA Tennis Foundation website. This service will initially be free as part of an introductory offer to acquaint people with the improved courts. However, a small fee payable in future will contribute towards maintaining the courts in pristine condition.
Leading Disabled Tennis Player to Inaugurate the Courts
Abbie Breakwell, one of the leading GB wheelchair tennis players, will be part of a special 'taster day' event slated for Saturday, September 23, featuring free coaching sessions and opportunities to play on the new courts.
Council Members Thrilled with the Refurbishment
"I am delighted we have had this opportunity to improve the courts, and to see them now in such good condition and ready for use is fantastic. Ayscoughfee is a beautiful setting with its stunning Gardens, fascinating history and great local café," said Councillor Tracey Carter, deputy leader and portfolio holder for communities and operational housing.
"It’s great that we have been able to secure further funding and had the opportunity to work with the LTA to complete this fantastic project and improve a well-loved facility in Spalding enjoyed by people from all areas of South Holland," added Councillor Henry Bingham, portfolio holder for assets and strategic planning.
The renovation, a result of a partnership between South Holland District Council and the Lawn Tennis Association, costed £120,000. The sum was funded by the UK Government and LTA Tennis Foundation contributing £100,000 whilst South Holland District Council supported with a further £20,000.
LTA and Government Officials Welcome the Upgrade
Julie Porter, chief operating officer at the LTA, expressed, "After months of hard work, we’re delighted to see park tennis courts at Ayscoughfee Gardens officially back open to the public, and in better shape than ever."
"These improved tennis facilities in Spalding will provide the local community with fun opportunities to get active," noted Stuart Andrew MP, sports minister.
Moving forward, the LTA and South Holland District Council intend to organise new free park tennis sessions. These improved courts will also host local tennis leagues, facilitating local community members to partake in friendly, social competitions. An online booking system and new access technology are poised to ensure the fair and secure utilisation of these courts.
