A Sergeant's Tribute
Sergeant Mike Templeman of the Lincolnshire Police is undertaking a significant endeavour to draw attention to road safety concerns. The officer, who has spent over two decades in law enforcement, will run 48 miles in memory of those who tragically lost their lives on Lincolnshire's roads in 2022.
The Run For Life
Proceeding on Sunday, November 19, Sergeant Templeman will complete rounds on the Yarborough Leisure Centre's 400-metre track. The event is not only a memorial but also a mission to broadcast road safety messages and fundraise for road safety charity, Brake, and national road crash victims charity, RoadPeace.
Sergeant Templeman said: "I have been a police officer for 21 years, and during that time, I have seen first-hand the devastation road fatalities inflict on the families and friends of those who died. I, like my colleagues, know that fatal 4 offences contribute to a lot of the needless deaths on our roads...
"These are speed, mobile phones, seatbelts, and drink/drug driving. If my challenge can help highlight these factors, that contribute towards so many fatal and serious injury collisions, then every mile will be worth it."
Brake and RoadPeace Cheers
Celebrities of both charities have expressed their support. Nick Simmons, CEO of RoadPeace, labelled Sergeant Templeman's endeavour as "incredible", while Ross Moorlock, Interim CEO of Brake, spoke of the force's gratitude and solidarity towards the officer's initiative.
Nick Simmons said: "This challenge is just incredible, and we cannot thank Sgt Templeman enough for his efforts to raise money for road crash victims and awareness about the harm caused by road crashes every day on our roads. We wish him lots of luck and will be cheering him on."
Ross Moorlock said: "We’re all so grateful to Sgt Templeman for taking on this impressive challenge and raising funds and awareness for Road Safety Week. This campaign is all about standing up and taking action against road death and injuries, and we’re all behind Mike for every step and every lap."
Cheer or Run With Templeman
Sergeant Templeman’s effort can be supported by coming to cheer him on, making a donation to the two charities or by sharing his mission through social media channels.
Interestingly, the day also marks the beginning of Road Safety Week and the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
