Burglary Epidemic Hits Lincolnshire, leads to Series of Car Thefts

Lincolnshire Police Investigates Burglary Spree

Lincolnshire Police is presently handling an investigation involving 16 incidents of burglary between August 26 and September 15. The burglaries occurring in Tattershall, Sleaford, and Alford mainly occurred in the early hours and overnight. The incidents involve instances of stolen vehicles and a bevy of suspicious circumstances.

Targeted Items and Crime Spots

In 14 of the reported incidents, car keys were the primary items targeted, leading to eight stolen cars from various locations, two of which were taken from the same property. The police have disclosed several crime spots, which include Tattershall Lakes, Princess Square, Lincoln, and Cedar Avenue, Sleaford, among others.

Of the burglaries, access to seven locations was achieved via insecure doors or windows. At one point, a thief used a child's fishing pole to steal keys through a window, while in another case, the culprits retrieved keys through a household's letterbox. Further thefts were reported on Witham Road, Woodhall Spa, Parsons Lane, Alford, and Rectory Road, Ruskington.

Suspect Arrested

A 38-year-old man was taken into custody on Monday, September 18, on burglary suspicion. He has since been released on bail, though, with the condition of refraining from entering the Lincolnshire Police force's jurisdiction. As part of the investigation, the police seized a van with cloned plates.

Statement by the Police

Commenting on the matter, Detective Inspector Kara Nicholson of Lincolnshire Police stated, "Burglary is an invasive and sickening ordeal to experience. Then to have your car stolen as well is a further invasion of your private and personal space."

He noted the emotional devastation for the victims and emphasised the determination of the force to bring those responsible to justice. He also urged residents to minimise risk by securing windows and doors and keeping their car keys out of sight.
