Officer in High-Stakes Misconduct Hearing

Detective Superintendent Accused of Misconduct Relating to Harassment Claims by Wife

A top-ranking police officer, Detective Superintendent Richard Myszczyszyn, has been accused of using his position to access CCTV footage connected to harassment claims lodged by his wife, according to a recent hearing at Lincolnshire Police Headquarters. The hearing, which stretched over five days, probed allegations of Myszczyszyn flouting professional standards in his bid to secure evidence.

Myszczyszyn's Alleged Breach of Standards

The hearing heard that in September 2022, Myszczyszyn allegedly went to a SPAR shop off-duty and coaxed staff into sharing CCTV footage about an incident involving his wife and her ex-business partner. His wife and her former partner started a clothing store business in Skegness in 2020, but the partnership fell through, leading to personal problems. Myszczyszyn’s wife claimed that her former business partner had maliciously crossed paths with her in the SPAR shop and then pulled out in front of her car.

"The crux of the matter is I shouldn't have got that CCTV and made a mistake getting it," Myszczyszyn confessed in an interview.

Accusations of Wrongful Access to Personal Data

Equally as troubling, Myszczyszyn faced allegations of breaching professional behaviour standards by accessing police systems and viewing personal data without reasons grounded in law enforcement. This occurred in February and between May to July 2021, which contravenes the Lincolnshire Police Misuse of Police Systems policy, said representatives at the hearing.

The upcoming days of the hearing are likely to bring more evidential details to light regarding Myszczyszyn’s potential misconduct. All names have been anonymised with initials for the sake of confidentiality.
