Major Progress for North Hykeham Relief Road

Lincolnshire County Council Takes Major Step for North Hykeham Relief Road

A significant step forward for the North Hykeham Relief Road has been taken as Lincolnshire County Council's executive committee voted unanimously to submit the project's planning application. This move has been announced following an executive meeting held on Tuesday, October 3 where the outline and proposed planning application of the relief road project were reviewed and thoroughly discussed.

Project Timeline and Estimated Cost

Initial construction of the critical relief road is slated to commence in November 2025, with a completion target by late 2028. The project's estimated cost ranges between £180m and £208m. With its completion, it would complete a full ring road around Lincoln, representing a significant accomplishment for the county.

Infrastructure Details

The scheme broadly entails the construction of a new dual carriageway linking the A46 Pennells Roundabout to the recently constructed Lincoln Eastern Bypass. New roundabouts are also proposed at South Hykeham Road, Brant Road, and Grantham Road. Additionally, the project involves the creation of several bridges, notable ones being at Station Road and over the River Witham.

"I’m incredibly happy to announce that the county council’s Executive voted unanimously to submit the planning application for the North Hykeham Relief Road. The next step will be for the project team to put the finishing touches on the application with a view to submitting it within the next month." said Cllr Richard Davies, the executive member for highways. "Once submitted, anyone interested will be able to view it on our planning portal and comment for at least 30 days. With that said, we’ll have a clearer idea of its status come spring 2024."
