Proposed Solar Energy Park to Power 110,000 Homes near Lincoln
A new solar and energy storage park has been proposed to be located to the north and south of the A46 at Fosse Way, near Lincoln, potentially providing clean energy to power about 110,000 households. If approved, Fosse Green Energy park will include solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and energy storage facilities.
Direct Connection to National Grid
Described as one of the significant renewable energy projects in the area, the park will connect directly to the National Grid via an underground cable and a substation, the location of which is currently being explored by the National Grid.
Generating and Exporting Capacity
The proposed solar park is projected to achieve a generating capacity of approximately 350 megawatts (MW) peak direct current (dc), and to export 240MW peak alternating current (ac).
Public Consultation Launched
A public consultation was initiated by Windel Energy on Monday, September 11, and is due to run until Friday, October 20. The company is keen to involve the local community and gather feedback to better shape the project design. The feedback will also help in learning the aspects to prioritize as the park is developed.
"We are committed to involving the local community and consulting widely on our plans in a responsible way. We've already considered and listened to feedback received earlier this year and have decided to not use overhead lines and pylons for the connection into the national grid," said Gary Toomey, managing director at Windel Energy."The feedback we receive at this stage of public consultation is very important and will help to further influence the design of the project, with it used to better understand aspects which should be prioritised as Fosse Green Energy is developed. We are particularly looking for suggestions of community schemes or projects that we could be a part of and on our plans to deliver biodiversity net gain."
Upcoming Public Meetings on the Project
Public events will be held throughout September and October at multiple locations, along with an online event, where members of the public can meet the project team and learn more about the proposal. Details about these events are accessible on the park's project website.
Feedback Opportunities
Feedback is encouraged and can be sent via the project website, email, or by calling the project phoneline available from Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm.
The proposed park is a joint venture between Windel Energy and Recurrent Energy and is disclosed under Fosse Green Energy Limited.
