Lincolnshire Witnesses Wave of Rallies Demanding End to Israel-Gaza Conflict
A wave of demonstrations has been triggered across Lincolnshire, as protestors unite in a call for an end to the ongoing war between Israel and Gaza. On Tuesday, October 17, activists assembled on Lincoln High Street, expressing their solidarity with the inhabitants of Gaza. The recent aggressive actions of the Gazan military organisation, Hamas, against Israel, instigated on Saturday, October 7, have amplified the long-standing feud between the two states.
'Stand with Gaza, Stand for Peace' - Protestors' Resounding Chorus
The Lincoln Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) disclosed that the inaugural 'Stand with Gaza, Stand for Peace' demonstration attracted over 100 participants. They plan to host a follow-up rally on Saturday, October 21. One of the spokespersons for the coalition outlined that the protestors were seeking three outcomes: an end to the Israel-Palestine war, solidarity with the people of Gaza, and a world 'in which all people have the right to determine their own future free from oppression'.
"Free Palestine" and "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free
These were among the slogans heard ringing off the streets of Lincolnshire. Protestors draped in Palestinian flags and bearing political placards were a common sight at the demonstration attended by locals and officials from TUSC.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak Denounces Hamas' Offensive
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemned the Hamas initiated attack as an anti-Jewish pogrom, saying it left countless dead and wounded, as reported by the Mirror. Addressing the House of Commons, Sunak revealed his shock at the number of casualties the world witnessed on Israel's end.
"The attacks in Israel last weekend shocked the world - over 1,400 people murdered one by one, over 3,500 wounded, almost 200 taken hostage. We should call it by its name - it was a pogrom."
Israeli Response to the Gaza Attacks
Six UK nationals have been reportedly killed in Israel, with ten more missing following the offensive by Hamas on October 7. Israel, in response, has carried out airstrikes on Gaza and allegedly plans a ground invasion of the Strip.
