Lincolnshire Police Drone Aids in Arrest of Fleeing Suspect

Lincolnshire Police utilise cutting-edge drone technology in order to apprehend a man who had evaded officers. The drone's thermal imaging capabilities allowed the police to locate the 31-year-old man who sought to conceal himself in an area with dense foliage near Crofton Close, Lincoln.

Arrest and Charges

The suspect, identified as Ashley Howitt from Jellicoe Avenue, Lincoln, was apprehended and placed under arrest. Fragments of alcoholic smell were evident on Howitt's breath but he refused to give a breath sample for analysis. Additional charges were brought upon Howitt for damaging a cell while in custody.

"The man had failed to stop for police and fled from his van. He was located using the thermal image of our drone and officers were guided in to arrest him."

Consequences Laid Down by Lincoln Magistrates' Court

Howitt was tried at the Lincoln Magistrates' Court, pleading guilty to all charges on Friday, October 27. He faced several repercussions including a three-year ban on driving, a £150 fine, and a compensation payment of £50. Alongside these penalties, he was also ordered to cover the prosecution's costs of £370.

Police Prioritise Road Safety

A statement from a Lincolnshire Police spokesperson revealed that road safety along with the reduction of serious injuries or fatalities remains a priority for the force. Howitt's capture reinforces the use of drones as an efficient tool in ensuring public safety.
