Lincoln City Street Submerged As Storm Babet Takes Its Toll

Storm Babet Floods Lincoln City Street

Residents on Brant Road, Lincoln, have found themselves waist-deep in flood water due to the recent onslaught by Storm Babet. Continuous downpour throughout the day has led to the highways being deluged and residents bailing out water from their dwellings for hours.

Storm Babet Disrupts County

Storm Babet has caused significant disruption across Lincolnshire, closing businesses, schools and even forcing some to abandon their homes. The torrential rainfall resulted in severe flooding, particularly affecting a row of houses on Brant Road.

Local Resident Narrates His Experience

"In the 21st Century, what infrastructure is in place to help all these residents? It's not good enough. The fire brigade have been down to help us who very kindly pumped out thousands of litres of water."

So says Ken Bowen, a long term resident of Brant Road who has lived there for 38 years. A plasterer by trade, Bowen stated that the flooding is the severest it has been since 2003 and lamented the breakdown of local infrastructure in the face of the inclement weather. Bowen's garden has transformed into a basin as a result of the severe inundation.

A Torrential Nightmare

Jack Thomas, another local resident, was found rolling up his sleeves to bail out water from his mother-in-law's house as flood waters seeped in. Describing the harrowing situation, he said,

"It's pretty horrific really. It all seemed to come along at once. My wife came home at about 1pm and from then it just got progressively worse. We've been bailing it out non-stop for hours. It's come into the house now and up through the floors."

County-wide Havoc Wreaked By Storm Babet

Other parts of Lincolnshire have not been spared by the relentless storm either. Middle Rasen residents have been afflicted by home and street flooding. The staff of Lincolnshire Wildlife Park near Skegness have had to fight off flood water reaching as high as five inches.
