Police Arrest and Seize Firearms in Lincoln
Police inquiries in Lincoln led to a dramatic arrest and seizure of potential firearms this week, as local residents woke up to a swarm of squad cars in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Addressing Report of Violent Threats
At 7.09pm on Wednesday, September 13, Lincolnshire Police received a call concerning a man who was allegedly physically and verbally threatening two women at an address on Archer Street, Lincoln. A 53-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of affray, assault and possession of an offensive weapon, less than 15 minutes after the report was made. The individual remains in police custody pending further questioning.
Firearm Discoveries Raise the Stakes
As part of the investigation, officers turned their attention to another property on Burwell Close. The surprise search operation led to the location of three potential firearms. These items are currently undergoing tests to confirm their operational capabilities. As of Thursday, police officers remain posted within a block of flats on Burwell Close.
A resident of the same block of flats said: "I heard a load of police come at about six in the morning. There must've been about ten or twelve of them."
Residents Remarks on Evolving Situation
Local Burwell Close residents previously enjoyed their quiet neighbourhood. However, they admit that the police's presence has now become a common occurrence.
Long-term resident Polly Coatsworth, who has lived at Burwell Close for 53 years, said: "I was woken up by it. I got up this morning at half seven to go to the wheelie bin and there was a police car there. It was a quiet street but now we've had people falling out and shouting in the middle of the night. For years and years, nothing happened down here. I’m surprised that they found firearms."
Residents voiced their surprise, many not learning of the operation until they saw police cars outside their homes in the morning. An unnamed local shared: "I didn’t know much about it until I looked outside early this morning and saw the police cars. It’s not unusual to see them down here."
Call for Public Assistance
Lincolnshire Police is asking for anyone with information who might be able to help with the investigation to contact them on 101.
