Former Lincoln City Player Mourns the Loss of His Wife

Former Lincoln City football player, Josh Vickers, has expressed his sorrow over the passing of his wife Laura due to cancer. The pair had been married only three months before her death, and Vickers has paid public tribute to her in an affecting manner.

Josh Vickers' Emotional Tribute

Vickers, 27, found it difficult to put his feelings into words when speaking about his late wife. He said, "I have written and unwritten this so many times and still can’t find the right words to say and don’t know if I ever will," as reported by the Mirror. Expressing his admiration for Laura's strength and determination throughout her illness, he said, "Laura is the strongest, bravest and most loving person I have ever met. Even though everything she was going through, she continued to smile, never letting anything get in the way of having a good time and making a lifetime of memories."

Vickers' Career and Personal Life

Originally starting his career with Arsenal, Vickers found experience with Swansea and Rotherham before leaving for Lincoln in 2015. Now a goalkeeper with Derby County, Vickers was absent from the squad's recent match against Carlisle due to personal reasons. His fellow players entered the game holding a shirt with Vickers' name and number as a mark of solidarity.

Furthermore, fans and supporters have shown their sympathies through various tributes. A social media post from Derby County carried the caption "For Josh," prompting responses such as "A club united behind @JoshVickers1 at this difficult time," and "Thoughts are with Josh and his family. So very sorry for your loss, Josh. Heartbreaking. We are all here for you."

Expressions of Sympathy and Support

Vickers and his wife, Laura, got engaged last year whilst in Canada, eventually marrying in June. The recent news of Laura's passing has resonated throughout the football community, with teammates past and present extending their condolences. Derby striker Martyn Waghorn noted, "We are all with you mate", while other expressions of support came from Kane Wilson and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, among others.
