Local Man Convicted of Online-Derived Sexual Offences
A local man from Wigtoft, identified as 35-year-old James Moorcroft, has been found guilty of committing two serious sexual offences. Moorcroft's conviction follows after a two-year-long investigation into his actions.
Moorcroft Captured and Sentenced
Having been identified and apprehended merely hours following his offence, Moorcroft appeared in Lincoln Crown Court in August. There, he was convicted of two counts of rape against a victim he had met online. The final sentence, given on Friday, September 22, was eight years and nine months of incarceration.
Statement from Investigating Officer
"This was a lengthy investigation that has resulted in a positive outcome for the victim. Although this crime will stay with the victim forever, hopefully this will provide an element of closure for her,"
The officer commended the bravery of the victim that participated in the investigation, also thanking supportive agencies involved. In particular, they hailed SARC at Spring Lodge for their extraordinary support to the victim.
The story serves as a reminder that sexual assault and rape incidents can and should be reported. Various organisations exist to provide necessary help and support to victims.
