Locations Revealed for Lincoln Ice Trail's 20 Sculptures
The City of Lincoln Council has announced the sites for 20 ice sculptures as part of the Lincoln Ice Trail. Live ice-carving demonstrations of Lincoln Cathedral will accompany the event taking place on December 9 and 10 from 10 am to 4 pm each day.
Replacing the Christmas Market
The Lincoln Ice Trail is organised to substitute the city's Christmas Market which was cancelled after 40 years due to concerns over overcrowding. The trail is part of a new array of activities intended to keep the city's festive spirit.
Live Ice-Carving and More
In addition to the sculptures scattered around Lincoln, the two-day event will feature ice-carving demonstrations, performances in Castle Square, stilt walkers at St Paul in the Bail and a closing show at Lincoln Cathedral. Frozen characters, Anna and Elsa, will also grace the city during the event, with a special appearance by Anna on Sunday.
"Christmas is a special part of the year for everyone, and Lincoln is the perfect backdrop for celebrations. Having seen the ice sculptures in other cities bring in the crowds, we have teamed this trail with some fantastic, and traditional Christmas entertainment throughout the festive season so there really is something for everyone. We have significantly invested in our Christmas lights this year and alongside the Ice Trail, mulled wine, carollers, the gallopers and extra festive entertainment, December will definitely be one to remember in Lincoln." - Councillor Naomi Tweddle, portfolio holder for Inclusive Economic Growth at City of Lincoln Council
The council has listed out all the 20 Ice Sculpture locations which range from High Street to Lincoln Cathedral Dean's Green. Most of the sculptures are being sponsored by local businesses including Lincoln Castle, Thor’s Tipi, Turtle Bay, Stagecoach and Nationwide.
About the Ice Sculptures
The sculptures in the Lincoln Ice Trail are currently being crafted by Icebox, Europe's leading ice sculpture expert.
