Lincolnshire Footballer Battles Cancer
A young Lincolnshire footballer diagnosed with a rare form of cancer has demonstrated her fortitude and passion for the sport by expressing her keenness to return to the pitch. Abi Ringrose, a midfielder for Lincoln City Women, was recently diagnosed while on a tour to Australia to watch the Lionesses compete in the World Cup.
Cancer Diagnosis
Abi, 22, balances her love for football with her professional life as a physiotherapist at Lincoln County Hospital. Her diagnosis propelled her into emergency surgery and an upcoming round of chemotherapy.
In Support of Abi
Tributes have flowed from her teammates and the wider football community, reflecting the esteem in which she is held. A highlight was the team raising her number 18 shirt to commemorate their 6-2 triumph over Notts County.
"It has been amazing to see the support from the girls since the diagnosis. I can't ask for a more supportive group to be a part of. I'm definitely eager to get back playing with the girls."
Support has extended beyond her immediate team. Sleaford Town Ladies shared sincere well wishes via Twitter, pointing to Abi's former ties with some of their players.
"Everyone at Sleaford Town Ladies FC would like to send their love and support to Lincoln City Women player Abi Ringrose. We hope to see her back on the pitch soon."
Charity Efforts
Jack Lawson, a close family friend, intends to run the Yorkshire Marathon in Abi's honor on the 15th of October. Contributions can be made via his GoFundMe page.
