Mark Kennedy Exits Lincoln City FC Suddenly, Leaving Fans in Disbelief
In a surprising development, Mark Kennedy has abruptly resigned from his role as manager of Lincoln City FC, also known as the Imps. The news broke on October 18, adding further to the shock and confusion of fans.
A Shocking Departure
Since taking charge in 2022, Kennedy has overseen more than 70 matches for the Imps. However, his sudden exit alongside assistant head coach Danny Butterfield has left fans uncertain about the future of the League One side. Some fans voiced their concern and disbelief on X, a social media platform.
"Very surprised and, have to admit, unhappy about this, too. I thought Mark Kennedy was being given the chance to build a squad with the permanent signings. Yes, a few poor results but every club has those at least [once] in the season," fan Andy Helson (@andyhelson) wrote.
They followed up with, "Hope this wasn't a knee-jerk reaction we'll regret."
Reaction from Fans
Callum Roper (@CallumRoper1), equally surprised, publicly confessed being "genuinely shocked" by the development. Fan, @sincilbank, despite nodding to some displeasure among the fans, acknowledged the club's progress under Kennedy.
"Wow. Never saw that coming. Will obviously please some but I thought we were making steady progress [despite] the striker issue. Thanks for your efforts, Mark," @sincilbank said.
Club Statement and Interim Plans
The club is yet to give concrete reasons for the departures, leaving fans speculating whether Kennedy was let go or resigned voluntarily. Lincoln City FC's chief executive Liam Scully thanked both Kennedy and Butterfield for their contributions and wished them good luck with their future endeavours.
In the aftermath of the shuffle, first-team coach Tom Shaw will step in as the interim head. Meanwhile, the club will commence the search for their next head coach. Lincoln City FC are currently in the 16th position in League One, having only one victory in their past five outings.
Future Speculations
Rumours and speculation are rife about who might take the reins of the club. Names like Stephen Bradley, currently the Shamrock Rovers manager, and Danny Cowley, former manager of Lincoln City FC, have been surfacing as possible choices with respective odds of 4/5 and 7/4. Steve Cotterill and Frank Lampard, both with 8/1 and 33/1 odds respectively, have also made it to the list of bookmakers.
