New Multi-Million-Pound Cinema and Leisure Complex coming to Lincolnshire
In a significant boost for Lincolnshire, an agreement has been struck to develop a new multi-million-pound cinema and leisure complex in the heart of Gainsborough town centre. The landmark project is a collaboration between West Lindsey District Council and Savoy Cinemas.
More Than Just a Cinema
Valued at £9 million, the development will feature a four-screen cinema, a restaurant, retail units, and ample parking facilities. Funding for the project will be sourced from the council, the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership, Savoy Cinemas, and the government's Levelling Up Fund.
A Boon for Gainsborough's Town Centre
The complex brings more than just entertainment to Gainsborough; it will also create a new pedestrian path between the bustling Marshall's Yard and the historic marketplace. In a nod to environmental sustainability, the development will also integrate modern green solutions in its design, including solar panels and air-sourced heat technology.
"We are delighted to be part of this exciting regeneration initiative of Gainsborough town centre. The area has undergone significant change over the last few years, and it still has huge potential to develop further. We are looking forward to commencing work on the development and welcoming you through our doors on opening night." - James Collington, Managing Director at Savoy Cinemas Limited
"We are thrilled to finally be able to announce our deal with Savoy Cinemas. As a local family cinema operator, Savoy shares the Council’s passion for investing in Gainsborough, with a development that will breathe life back into our town centre." - Councillor Trevor Young, Leader of West Lindsey District Council
"This has been an incredibly challenging site to bring forward. The council was required to step in and acquire the land, lead the demolition of the former Lindsey Centre and secure grant funding to make the scheme viable. This is all part of our enabling role." - Sally Grindrod-Smith, Director of planning regeneration and communities at West Lindsey District Council
The Future of Gainsborough
The new cinema and leisure complex marks a significant step forward in the ongoing regeneration of Gainsborough town centre and will play a critical role in its future growth and development.
