Dispersal Order Issued for Riseholme Road, Gainsborough
In light of plans for a significant gathering, Lincolnshire Police have issued a 24-hour dispersal order for the Riseholme Road area in Gainsborough. The order will come into effect from 4pm on Friday, September 29.
Gathering to Pay Tribute
The gathering was supposed to pay tribute to a man who unfortunately lost his life on that very road last week. Elements of the gathering were to include playing music over loudspeakers, having an MC, and blocking the road - details of which were shared in advance on social media platforms.
Police Statement
"We completely understand the right – and the need – for people to come together to pay their respects, and we want to help that happen in a way that remains safe and lawful, without impacting residents in the area. We have given officers guidance to help facilitate that."
This statement was conveyed by a spokesperson from Lincolnshire Police. As per the dispersal order, officers will have the authority to direct anyone causing or likely to cause disturbance in the area to leave.
Additional Power to Seize Equipment
The order further allows officers to seize any equipment that might potentially create a disturbance. Residents are hence encouraged to pay their respects in a manner that is considerate of the community.
A bolstered police presence will also be evident in the area during the dispersal order's enforcement period.
