Lincolnshire Mum and Son Evade Overnight Fire

Mum and Son Escape After House and Car Fire Incident

A Lincolnshire mother and son have had a narrow escape from an overnight fire that severely damaged their home and car. Laura Coupland, 39, and her 11-year-old son Lincoln-Jay Brocklehurst, were forced to evacuate their residence on Gibraltar Road, Gainsborough,Around 3am on Tuesday, July 11.

Alerted by Dog Barking

Miss Coupland acknowledges that they owed their escape to their nine-year-old Staffy/Husky cross, Lacie, who alerted them to the fire. "My dog Lacie can hear anything no matter the time, as soon as my car was on fire she heard it, her constant loud barking got us up. It was her barking that alerted me before I heard the fire." said Coupland.

Woman Recounts Night of the Fire

The event left the mother and son in shock, and they were now temporary residents in accommodation that doesn't allow pets. "For whatever reason I woke up and darted out of bed and heard my dog barking. As soon as I woke up I smelt the smoke. I went across the landing and saw my car on fire," explained Miss Coupland.

The Aftermath of the Fire

The fire also damaged pieces of furniture, and items in the car including Lincoln-Jay's football boots and coats were ruined by the smoke. The mother further stated it's time to "start again". The fire damage extended to 100 percent of one vehicle, front door, and resulted in smoke damage to the hallway and landing, according to Miss Coupland.

Investigation Closed Due to Insufficient Evidence

Lincolnshire Police department confirmed that their investigation into the cause of the fire has been closed due to lack of evidence. They reported no injuries and made no arrests. Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue service who attended the scene rescued one dog (Lacie) from the fire.

A Fundraising Campaign

Following the fire, Ms Coupland set up a GoFundMe page to help raise funds to replace items lost in the fire.
