Lincolnshire Businesses Shine in Great Food Club Awards
The winners of this year's Great Food Club Awards have been announced, with three independent Lincolnshire businesses achieving top honours. Recognised for its celebration of the East Midlands' best food and drink independents, Great Food Club provides an annual platform for celebrating excellence in this industry. Amongst the winners this year were The Red Lion, Redhill Farm Free Range Pork, and Brewsters Brewery.
The Red Lion's Roaring Win
The Red Lion in West Deeping was awarded 'Pub of the Year'. Characterised as a traditional village pub offering local and seasonal dishes, The Red Lion has been serving patrons since 2021, under the stewardship of chef patron Frazer King and his partner, Emma.
Lincolnshire's Food Heroes
Jane Tomlinson of Redhill Farm Free Range Pork in Gainsborough and Sara Barton of Brewsters Brewery in Grantham are the 'Food Heroes of the Year'. For nearly 25 years, Tomlinson has tirelessly managed farming and family life to build a business committed to quality, animal welfare, and reliability. Among Redhill's impressive feats is supplying their award-winning pork pies to renowned venues such as Wimbledon, Queens Club, and The Open.
Barton, the first woman awarded the British Guild of Beer Writers’ Brewer of the Year and the 2019 Institute of Brewing and Distilling Brewer of the Year, is another Food Hero honoured this year. Her initiative, Project Venus, launched in 2011, is devoted to aiding women brewers. Not only confined to brewing, her community contribution includes operating Brewster’s pub, The Marquis of Granby, and offering canned beers through her brewery shop and online platform.
Selection Process for Great Food Club Awards
The award recipients were determined through nominations by Great Food Club members and readers for their most-loved independent food/drinks business over the past year. May to June 2023 saw more than 6,000 online votes cast during this selection process.
