Historic Church Door Vandalised in Tattershall; Restoration To Cost £100,000
In a shocking incident, a 15th-century west door at the Church of The Holy Trinity in Tattershall, Lincolnshire, has been vandalised. A section of the historic relic was brutally torn off.
Lincolnshire Police suspect a group of local teenagers witnessed loitering around the church between October 11 and 13, 2023, may be responsible for this act. Unfortunately, the cost for restoring all three doors, which are original to the building, is estimated to reach £100,000. This will include the reattachment of the west door's removed panel.
Community Reaction and Police Response
Churchwarden, Sheila Mullenger, expressed her distress, saying, "It is very upsetting that people do these things to churches and it causes a lot of stress to people. Sometimes we have to close the church because of it but we don't like to."
The local Lincolnshire Police Rural Crime Action Team released a statement regarding the incident at 4.06 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. They have asked any witnesses or anyone holding relevant informations to dial 101, quoting the crime reference number 23000638095.
