Woodhall Spa 1940s Festival Ends Permanently

Permanent Cancellation of Woodhall Spa 1940s Festival Causes Stir Among Readers

The yearly Woodhall Spa 1940s Festival, beloved by many, won't be taking place anymore. The event organisers announced its permanent cessation on Saturday, November 4, attributing the decision to escalating operation costs.

The festival, which has been a staple in Woodhall Spa since its inception in 2012, predominantly relied on volunteers for its organisation. The sudden announcement roused a wave of disappointment among readers, with many expressing their sorrow and others drawing attention to other cancelled Lincolnshire events. Alternative suggestions for keeping the event alive were floated by few.

Uneasiness Among FestivalGoers

"I never thought I would see the day this event would be no more. What with Lincoln Christmas Market gone, it certainly feels like someone is in a cancel it all mood?"
- Louise Honeyman, a festival regular.

She is joined by Debbie Elaine Brammer who shares a similar sentiment.

"Another thing that Lincolnshire has lost, so really sad that our fun events are dying off."

Des Goodwin chimed in with a stark observation.

"Beach race at Skegness gone, Lincoln Christmas Market gone, now this. Not a good promotion for people to visit Lincolnshire."

Exploring Alternatives

While some expressed sadness, others suggested creative solutions to keep the festival spirit alive. Festival enthusiast Carol Haycock put forward her idea:

"This is very sad to hear. Would it be possible to run a few small ticket events? E.G. picnic in the park or tea dance at the Petwood Hotel?"

Likewise, Linda Whitworth proposed another viable alternative.

"So sad can there not be ticket sales, people were prepared to pay £20 for buses, why not ticket it?"

Farewell to a Beloved Festival

In a Facebook post carrying an air of "great sadness", the organisers bid "fond goodbye" to the festival on November 4. Not only did they mention their gratitude to the devoted team of volunteers, but also paid homage to local residents, businesses, sponsors, entertainers, and every individual who contributed to the event over the years. Proclaiming a warm "We will miss you all," the organisers ended the post with "Thank you for the memories. Goodbye."
